“Starting Feb. 1, fans of the Greek mythology-based action game can head to 7-Eleven when the Kratos Fury Slurpee flavor, created by Mtn Dew and the convenience-store chain, debuts. The blackberry-and-lime-flavored drink will also come with a choice of four different “God of War” artwork cups.
The cups will give each Slurpee buyer a code that allows them to download a variety of content including behind-the-scenes video of the making the game, an animated theme of Kratos’ face, wallpaper for PCs and virtual items that unlock armor to use inside the game. Most games on consoles actually cannot be run at native 1080p, so it’s not just GOWIII that isn’t possible at 1080p, essentially only arcade games are native 1080p(1920×1080) even GT5 prologue isn’t native 1080p it’s 1280×1080, there are actually very few games that run native 1080p(1920×1080) on consoles, GOWIII now included into that list of games.
And yes the new trailer is coming Feb 11th or early morning Feb 12th, new sources point more toward Feb 12th now.

Yeah I know PS3 can handle 1080p, but I didn’t think that GoW3 would push the PS3 enought to make 1080p impossible. And hey, is it true that they are going to release a new trailer on February 11th? I heard so.

Yes very true, but I’d like to point out that if all those games were 1080p without any framerate drop, they would actually have better graphics due to more pixels on screen plus a higher ppi(pixel per inch) however this is technically impossible on consoles.
However yes GOWIII will look great, because with 720p the console is doing less to render the images, allowing the devs more room to push higher resolution textures, shaders e.t.c

It doesn’t matter. Most games run on 720p. Games like Uncharted 2 run on 720p. MGS4 ran on 720p.

yeah they ran into technical limitations, it’s not the PS3 can’t do 1080p games, it can but not with a game as intense as GOWIII. I can always explain further if you need me to.
However rest assured that by going 720p you will not be getting worse graphics, you could get even better on-screen visuals as it works the console less than a 1080p game, thus the devs can put much more on-screen awesomeness.
And one things for sure when you see GOWIII in action, you won’t believe your eyes.

@jackystone yeah, that was the original plan, however the devs ran into loads of complications to do with console limitations, and 1080p simple wasn’t possible. If you want a more detailed explanation that gets pretty technical just let me know…in a nutshell the dev team deemed it impossible to get it running at 1080p.
However trust me 720p is amazing, and in fact can allow the devs more room to make the game look even better…
