Yes, absolutely.... if your customer base is one which (1) values saving energy and resources, and (2) is (probably) willing to pay a little extra for it.

For a green laundromat... you have to think about where you find customers that really care about the fact that you are green. Do you have a university nearby (students & staff members could be very good targets)?

Think about who typically uses a laundromat (as opposed to a dry cleaners... sounds like yours is a self-service type laundromat?): it's people who don't have their own washer & dryer. So economics may be a concern if your costs are a little higher.

You could also sell envrionmentally-friendly laundry materials (detergent, fabric softener, etc) & provide the ability for people to recycle their used bottles, etc.

Get people interested by sponsoring a competition (suggestion box maybe) for the best environmental ideas that you could implement... you could advertise it, and bring people to the store to submit their ideas. Include a coupon, and have a nice prize of some type (eg, free laundry for some period of time...).

I would say that's a great idea - especiallly if you're in a college town - where lots of laundry customers will be college-aged kids (who are also the demo who'd be drawn to "green" thing)

I would make sure your marketing directly hits to that demo - and don't fall into the trap many other companies do with their advertising: trying to hit on lots of topics (ex: low price, good location, great service, etc).

Keep your marketing focused on your "green" aspect - and find creative ways of doing it. Plus, direct your marketing to places your demo audience will see it - student newspapers, flyers on campus, etc.
References :
Green is good. The global campaign for going green will help you in making your green marketing strategy effective. You can tie-up with organizations with an advocacy on 'going green'. They can be of help to your business. Or, you can ask advice from your government agency on environmental management and protection. I bet they will help you promote your business. They may even give advices on how to make your marketing strategy effective. Just remember that it will be hard in the beginning but in the long run, the return is good for your company and for the environment. At least, you're doing your part to saving Mother Nature.
