Actually I do think there is a way for the government to make money on marijuana. Instead of jail time, possession should be a civil infraction. That way the government could make loads of money off all the tickets, and not have to pay money to jail users.That would bring in a lot more money than a tax.

Regardless, once legalized the price of marijuana will drop significantly similarly to the way it did in Europe and Canada. It would just be another cigarette tax that cant even pay for the health toll on the system. Look I fully understand that people who want to legalize marijuana cant be persuaded otherwise despite any evidence against it, and I harbor no grand delusions that I can convince you.

Of course consumption would go up after legalization but there is a MASSIVE portion of the population BEGGING to be TAXED so they don’t have to buy from some shady person in unsafe circumstances. Right now, silver is trading on the open market for 18.44 per OUNCE. Quality MJ is $300/Oz or higher You can buy an Ounce of gold ($1138/oz with a Quarter Lb. of a PLANT THAT ANYONE CAN GROW. I think it was either the Wall Street Journal or the NYT that did the math. Given the additional strain legalizing an additional drug would have on the health industry, it would cost several times more than the war on drugs. Many of my econ courses in college there were plenty of students who tried to show how the taxes would be beneficial but their theories always got shot down when start digging into the details on costs and consequences. Look how much damage alcohol & cirgarettes do already.

You’re fooling yourself if you don’t think that the Marijuana industry would create thousands of jobs, eliminate drug cartel funding through marijuana, reduce prison populations and make Uncle Sam a buck.
You’re right, Marinol was not well received by patients because it didn’t give them the effects that they would receive from cooking and eating the raw product. You can actually make marijuana more potent by cooking it. You can reduce it’s potency by overheating it.

Many patients complain that marijuana doesn’t do anything when it is swallowed in pill form. They usually take the marijuana out of the pills, wrap it, then smoke it. Marijuana as a financial savior is a pot head pipe dream. Not even the heavy taxes levied on alcohol and cirgarettes make a dent in the tax & medical burdens. The cigarette taxes aren’t even enough to pay for people to quit smoking let alone medical bills. Marijuana wouldn’t be any different & therefore isn’t a financial answer.

America is in a financial crisis. You could single handedly pay for our healthcare plan by legalizing it and taxing it. The amount of money saved in the prison system releasing non-violent criminals would be exponential. It’s time we woke up to the insanity that is marijuana laws.

Tell that to my old college roommate who has esophageal cancer and only smoked marijuana. National Cancer Institute conducted a study that proved Marijuana smoke does in fact cause cancer and is unhealthy for a multitude of reasons. Over time THC build up in the body also causes damage and lowers the immune system. These are only a few ways marijuana is unhealthy. But you won’t hear of it will you? You will just argue that it is just another conspiracy. The man is out to get you man!
